About Donalds
We are an established independent menswear shop and men’s fashion retailer in the town centre of Okehampton in Devon – well known for our “old-fashioned” personal customer service and our large and diverse collection of quality men’s clothing and accessories.
Donalds Menswear has been owned and run by Mark and Gail Turner since 5th September 2016; Mark having worked with the previous and original shop owner Donald Rooke from October 2004 until his retirement.
Donald opened his independent shop in May 1984 after Hepworths (gentlemen’s ready-made and made-to-measure tailoring) added the Okehampton branch to its closure program.

2016
In September, Donalds Menswear opens under the ownership of Mark & Gail Turner (incorporated as “Donalds Menswear (Okehampton) Ltd”).
Mark Turner joins Donalds Menswear in October as shop manager.
2004
1984
Shortly after Hepworths close their branch in Okehampton, Donald opens an independent men’s outfitter under his own name in May.
By December there are 52 “NEXT for Men” stores nationwide, and in 1986 the parent company J Hepworth & Son completes its rebranding to NEXT plc.
Donald Rooke starts work as a young salesman at Hepworths, progressing up in the company to become store manager of the Okehampton branch.

Hepworths purchase “Bank House” and opens a new men’s tailoring store in Okehampton.
The bank is acquired by the National Provincial & Union Bank of England.

1856
Dingley, Pearse & Co establishes the main office of its private bank in Okehampton, later becoming part of the Devon & Cornwall Banking Co.
